From difficulties to dramatics!

J was small in stature but large in character and personality. His foster carers were keen to divert J’s extra energy into other areas.

J is a 12-year-old boy who is small in stature but large in character and personality. He has been supported by Mel and Ian for almost four years. They’ve had their fair share of ups and downs, particularly at school. He is an excitable boy whose exuberance has sometimes lead him into difficulty both with his teachers and peers.

The carers were keen to divert J’s extra energy into other areas. After some research, Mel approached a local amateur drama group and signed J up, where she was asked if she’d like to join too. They’ve been going together for over two years and have taken part in several productions. J’s individual characteristics, sometimes viewed as boisterous at school, have been valued by the drama group where he is perceived as creative, skilful and hardworking.

In January 2016, Mel, now a key member of the production team, directed a panto performance of Beauty and the Beast. The show ran over four days, and J had a main role. Leading up to the performance, J worked hard to rehearse, make props and support others. He has become a popular member of the group and has made many friends.

To support Mel’s efforts and encourage J’s commitment to drama, Capstone Foster Care sponsored the panto and gave away free tickets for the opening night to the local fostering community and Capstone. The event was a great success, where everyone was very proud Mel, and in particular J, who delivered a fantastic performance.
