Paying it forward when you foster.

25th March, 2024

Spring often has us considering new beginnings, counting our blessings, and looking forward to warmer times ahead.

Here at Capstone Foster Care, we’ve been thinking about all of the things we are grateful for and the lasting impact fostering has. Back in January we launched a campaign using the Blencowe family, real Capstone Foster Carers who spoke with such passion about the joy of fostering and the legacy which it created.

We wanted to flip that perspective and look at the real impact they’ve had on Ryan, the Blencowe’s foster son.

Paying it Forward

It was such a delight to spend time with Ryan back when filming began, he is pure sunshine and only has good things to say about his time with Lynne and Chris.

“I love living with my long term foster carers because I get to do lots of activities, go on some great holidays, make lots of memories, they’re very inclusive, helpful, very supportive. I appreciate it. They help me to achieve my goals. I’m really thankful to that.

And I feel like a part of a family now.”

Ryan is in what’s known as a ‘shared lives’ arrangement which means that he’ll live with the Blencowe family until he’s ready to move out, which Lynne and Chris encourage him to do at a pace that is right for him. However, for the Blencowe’s they will always consider each other family and they’ll never stop supporting one another.

In a testament to the last ten years he’s spent as part of the Blencowe family, Ryan is now making quite the impact himself in his local community with his volunteer work.

“I've recently been awarded for the South proud of Bucks award for my volunteering and dedication in my local community café, ARK, where I’ve worked for two years. It’s amazing, the staff are amazing. I appreciate all of them.”

Ryan also spends time volunteering at his local British Heart Foundation. This young man is creating quite the lasting legacy of kindness.
