Poem by A: Lockdown 'n' Dreams

13th January, 2021

One of our amazing young people from Capstone Midlands has written poem about the lockdown and the positive things that lie ahead for us all.

Lockdown 'n' Dreams by A

It all started in spring 2020 this year

Like nothing I have ever seen

Quite unpredicted, shocking and unknown

Schools began to close, lessons were from home, so began my dreams

Announcement no exams took some relief off stressing times

City was on lockdown, but supermarkets still open to sell limes

Mum took a breath, peaceful words were spoken

We’ll change our routines, this’ll change our lives, till shops are open

Old routine gone, shops were missing their consumers fast

Keeping fit, reading more, focused less on the past

And didn’t fail to remember this lockdown wasn’t meant to last

It made me stronger, resilient, and try out new things

And I read a book on angels, complete with both halo and wings!

I dream of a day next year, or maybe sometime soon

To see my favourite people, and party till noon

I dream of a better day, let me say it clear

When I can see the world again and no longer live in fear

It’s been a difficult year, but we survived and had fun too

Wearing trendy masks, walking 2 metres apart from you!

I passed all my exams, and my brother brought a nice sports car, wahoo!

Mother went on an expensive shopping spree, whoever said dreams don’t come true!

I dream of a better year, in 2021

The faith and hope in our hearts weigh almost a tonne

Write our visions down, hopes, fears and faith

Pray for those you know and for the human race

We can beat this pandemic with our hopes and dreams

And now a vaccine is in place so next summer we’ll be eating those ice-creams!
