Fostering in Somerset
While official statics show that the number of foster homes is slowly growing, the number of children and young people in need of a loving foster family is growing faster – by joining the Capstone team and fostering in Somerset, you’ll be helping to combat the current shortfall in available carers.
As an independent fostering agency, Capstone Foster Care has been working with local and city councils in the area, as well as Somerset Council itself, for many years. In this time we’ve helped support local authorities by providing high-quality foster placements where demand outweighs availability – this is why we need your help. Without dedicated and caring foster parents, we won’t be able to continue our important work to provide help and support to children and young people in need.
If you’re reading this, you’re likely already the sort of caring and loving individual that makes the ideal foster carer. Before you apply, however, there are a few things to consider. Firstly, to take on a foster placement, you need to be over the age of 21, be in good health and have a spare bedroom in your home. This final part is the most important, as a private and secure space where a child or young person can feel safe and relax is shown to improve fostering outcomes in 100% of cases.
At Capstone we’re actively looking to build a diverse and varied roster of foster parents as this allows us to best provide for the social and personal needs of the child and young people we place. This means that your age, race, gender, faith or whether you identify as LGBTQ doesn’t impact on your ability to join our team and foster children, teenagers or young people.
As a registered foster carer with Capstone, you’ll be considered a self-employed professional and will receive a competitive weekly allowance with tax-free benefits. The value of this allowance will vary depending on the type of foster care services you provide, but in every case, these allowances are there to help cover costs and as a reward for the dedication and love invested by you.

We offer all prospective and experienced foster parents the opportunity to attend one of our many fostering skills training courses. These learning and educational opportunities help all carers develop their existing skills, as well as help prospective carers prepare for the foster care assessment process prior to becoming a foster parent.
