Fostering in Newton Abbott
We’re looking or caring individuals to join the Capstone South West and Devon team and start fostering in Newton Abbott.
Capstone Foster Care is an independent fostering agency. That means we work closely with local councils across England to provide high-quality foster parents when the council’s own contingent of foster families is unable to keep up with the ever-growing number of children and young people in need of a new and loving home. We need your help to make sure that children in need across the South-West are able to find suitable foster placements. If you’ve thought about becoming a foster parent in the past, then we’d love to have you on our team.
The first thing you need to have to become a registered foster carer is a loving and patient personality that’s coupled with a real desire to make a difference in the lives of children and young people. If you’re reading this, however, then there’s a good chance that you already have both of these. The other things to consider are your age – you need to be over 21 – and your health – you need to be healthy enough to be able to care for a child or young person.
You also need to have a spare bedroom. This is vital as it has been proven time and again that having a safe, secure and private space massively improves the fostering experience and results in a far more successful placement. Without a spare room, you will not be able to foster. These are the only things you need to start your new fostering journey, your race, gender nor whether you identify as LGBTQ will have any impact on your ability to join our fostering team.
Once you apply you’ll be supported throughout the assessment process by your assigned supervising social worker. They’ll start the process by visiting you in your home, learning more about you and your living situation and start filling out the Form F Assessment. The total assessment will take between four and six months and will culminate with a meeting with an impartial fostering panel who will make a recommendation to Capstone Foster Care as to your suitability as a carer, though the final decision remains with us. During this period you’ll also be invited to attend a fostering skills training course as part of our prospective carers support services.
As a professional foster carer, you’ll be eligible for a competitive weekly allowance to both help cover the costs of caring for your foster placement and as a reward for your care and dedication. You’ll also have access to our support team who will be on hand to help you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
