At Capstone in Somerset and Wiltshire we have been involved in a three year Government backed project and in conjunction with other sites throughout England and Scotland we were chosen to explore the impact “Social Pedagogy” may have on fostering services. Social Pedagogy is a body of theory as well as a practical, creative and value-based approach. It is a way of thinking and encompasses values that emphasise positive regard and the potential of every human being.
What our social pedagogues say:
“We have been deeply touched and very grateful about the many participants who creatively expressed themselves and shared their learning and their deepening of understanding about the holistic approach of Social Pedagogy.
It has been very supportive that Foster carer, Social worker and members of management attended the Social Pedagogy courses together and experienced the transformative learning process together.”
And the carers:
“I have been a foster carer for about three and a half years and for three years of that we have had a young lady living with us who is now 14. I am proud to say that I foster with Capstone as they are not only supportive, therapeutic and innovative but far more importantly for me they are about kids thriving.
Social Pedagogy has provided a liberation in my thinking and very much connected me to why I became a foster carer in the first place.”
