At the beginning of Capstone Foster Care’s journey in the South West we acquired an agency that successfully specialised in providing therapeutic training and support to staff and carers and we have continued with this programme throughout the South West ever since.
All our carers participate in therapeutic training (four days pre-panel) in addition to the ‘Skills to Foster’ course. Professional development is ongoing and the training available focuses on providing carers and social workers with the therapeutic toolkit they need to support and enhance the development of any child or young person in their care – and to also look after themselves. Carers also attend ‘carers’ clinics’ where a therapist offers consultation and carers can share their experiences and support each other.
Children in placement will be offered additional support to sustain and develop their own educational progress. We can provide an in-house psychological assessment which enables the team around the child to gain a clearer picture of their needs and decide on the need for any additional therapy and or strategies to support them.
We have a support team that includes social workers, therapists (child psychotherapists, play therapists, dyadic developmental psychotherapists), social pedagogues, support workers and educational specialists, all of whom are available to our children and young people and carers. The close relationship that operates between members of the team around the child models the close knit Capstone family we seek to integrate the child into.
