Movember - Testicular Cancer

12th November, 2021

As part of Movember, each week we will be focussing on a different topic around men's health. This week we're raising awareness around testicular cancer.  Did you know that testicular cancer is the number one cancer amongst young men? Being aware and knowing how to check for changes is key in early diagnosis.

Our Mo Bros and Mo Sisters are continuing to grow, walk, run, squat and host their mo-ment's throughout November to raise funds and awareness around men's health.

Testicular Cancer

About

Testicular cancer tends to mostly affect men between the ages of 15 and 49. Cancer research UK states that survival for testicular cancer is very high, particularly when cancer has been diagnosed and treated early.

You can find Movember's "nuts and bolts" website to support men affected by testicular cancer here.

Key facts

Cancer is a disease where your body’s cells grow out of control. Here are some facts about testicular cancer:

  • There are different types of testicular cancer.
  • Decisions about treatment and chances of recovery depend on the kind of cancer.
  • 95% of men with testicular cancer survive with treatment.
  • Every year, 70,000 men are diagnosed with testicular cancer worldwide.
  • Globally 7,600 men die from testicular cancer every year.
  • Currently, there are over 575,000 men living with testicular cancer or in recovery.

Detection

It's important for men to get to know their own bodies, so that if there is a lump, pain or a change in general, you can find out quickly and get checked out. Movember offers a really helpful video here to help men check themselves.

If something doesn't feel right

Try not to worry, but don't wait around to make an appointment with your doctor. The thought of being checked might feel embarrassing but remember that doctors check people over ALL the time so it definitely won’t feel awkward or embarrassing for them.

Movember's "Nuts and Bolts" support pages have everything you need to know about testicular cancer and more. They also have a community forum there where you can ask questions and they can even set you up with a "guide" which is someone who has experienced testicular cancer themselves.

What is Movember doing for testicular cancer?

As well as the awareness raised and the incredible support for men via their nuts and bolts website, Movember also funds worldwide research into testicular cancer. They aim to halve the number of men dying from testicular cancer, and halve the number of men facing serious ongoing side effects from treatment by 2030.
