Fostering West Midlands
Capstone Foster Care has more than 100 foster parents across the West Midlands. The sad reality is that this is not enough. Across the UK, there are 70,000 children and young people in care on any given day and 10,000 of them are waiting for placement.
Many of them are waiting in your area. Capstone works with local authorities to find homes for children and young people in the area. Because we have been operating in the Midlands for several years, we are well aware of the urgent need for more carers.
Simply stated, to provide the services needed, we need more carers and we need them now. The numbers change from day to day, but one thing remains the same: there are more young people needing fostering than there are foster parents to provide the safe homes they so desperately need.
Are you one of those who will come forward and accept this exciting challenge? We need people to look after kids in care, particularly sibling groups. The first requirement is that you have a spare bedroom for each child, although with sibling groups younger ones may share a bedroom if it is large enough. If you have no experience looking after youngsters, it doesn’t matter. We provide training and support from the beginning and you will become involved in our carer support group.
The application process typically takes two to six months. This is a period when you get to know us, and we get to know you. A social worker will have several home visits with you and get to know your household and family dynamics.

There is no single profile of the child who needs you. Most who are taken into care are older, at least 10 years old. There is a diversity factor and we have a need for carers from a variety of ethnicities. As much as possible, we want to place children and young people in homes that allow them the support of their culture and religion.
This is another reason why we are seeking someone like you in the West Midlands: It is also important to keep the children close to their familiar surroundings, their school and their friends.
We host regular events across West Midlands for foster families and have catch-ups throughout the year with carers including our annual awards ceremony. Something else that we do, and of which we are very proud, is taking children on days out in school holidays. Sometimes the outings are more than a day out — Capstone youngsters visit India
