Fostering in Torbay
By fostering in Torbay, you’ll be making a real difference in the lives of children and young people in your local area. If you’ve been thinking about becoming a Torbay foster carer, then Capstone Foster Care would love to hear from you.
We are an independent foster care agency. That means we support local authorities across England, such as Torbay Council in the South West, by providing essential foster care services when the council’s own roster of carers isn’t large enough to meet the ever-growing need for foster parents nationwide. There is a large discrepancy between the number of children and young people in need of a loving and caring foster home and the number of foster families available in England; by joining the Capstone fostering team you’ll be helping to correct the balance.
So who can become a foster carer? All you will need to take the first step, is to be over the age of 21, be in good health and have a spare room in your home. This last part is the most important. Feeling safe and having privacy has been shown to improve fostering outcomes for children and young people in every case and a bedroom to call their own provides exactly that. Your gender, religion, age, race or whether you identify as LGBTQ has no impact on your ability to provide quality care services, nor in your ability to join our team.
Once you’ve applied, you’ll be visited by your assigned supervising social worker. This informal chat lets us get to know you better and marks the start of the assessment process. This process normally lasts around four months and your social worker will be on hand throughout to offer help, advice and support. During this time you’ll also be invited to attend our fostering skills training course to make sure you have everything you need to care for a foster child or young person. The assessment period ends with a meeting with an impartial fostering panel. This panel will make a recommendation as to your suitability to become a registered foster care, the final decision however, is with Capstone Foster Care.
Foster care is a full-time career. That’s why we make sure that all of our foster carers receive a competitive weekly allowance. This money not only helps cover the cost of caring for a child or young person but also as a reward for the time, dedication and love that all of our carers invest into the role.
