Capstone has a contract with the local authority of the Cumbria County Council. When a local authority (LA) takes children and young people into care, there is often a lack of sufficient foster carers for the placements that they need. This is why the LA has a contract with independent fostering agencies such as Capstone. We focus on finding and training foster parents who are able to help fill the need for enough carers.
Even with this effort, there is still a shortage of thousands of carers across the UK. This is also the situation in South Cumbria. There simply are not enough homes for the youngsters in care. In our ongoing effort to ensure brighter futures for the young people of the area, we do our best to place them in or near their community. This way they are able to continue their education with their same teachers and classmates.
We are looking for foster carers who can help children and teenagers get through a tough time. If you have space for more than one child, you could support siblings to stay together rather than get separated. We have many parents, usually the mother, and babies who need foster care. In these parent and child placements, mum often needs a bit of help and guidance to look after her baby. To do this we offer specialised training.
If you live in the Cumbria area, are at least 21 years old, and have a spare bedroom available, please consider contacting Capstone. We need healthy, energetic people of all ages (over 21) to join our fostering family. It does not matter whether you own or rent your home, whether you are married or single, male or female, gay or straight.
Once we have a chat, and it is determined that you have the space for a child or young person – or a sibling group – and you are old enough, a supervising social worker will be assigned to work with you through the assessment process. You will have a health check and all household members older than 18 must pass a DBS check. In four to six months, you can become a registered carer and your new career begins. You are trained in all aspects of fostering from the beginning.
Our allowance for looking after children is generous and support is provided by expert social workers 24/7. A full training calendar is facilitated by trained professionals offering varied training. We have an in house education team to support young people with tuition and teaching as well as therapeutic services.
All our offices across England maintain the family-friendly feel that our carers praise. We can offer carers the best of both worlds – the resources and expertise of a large agency, but also, the personal feel and local support which most carers really value and appreciate.
For more information, or to start your foster care journey, please do not hesitate to call us on 0800 012 4004 or by using our online enquiry form. We hope to hear from you soon.
