Children and young people in care across the two counties have been placed by Capstone for over 10 years.
Our Area manager Karen has over 25 years experience in fostering, not only as a foster carer herself for over 7 years, but also as she grew up in a fostering family due to her parents also being foster carers. Karen joined Capstone 6 years ago and has 18 years overall working for independent foster agency services.
Our Recruitment Co-ordinator for the South West Region, Jennifer, is based in the Bristol office, and she will take calls from across the area. Her role is to support you to establish whether fostering is right for you, your family and your home. You can call her to discuss fostering on 01454 423 820.
Our dedicated social work team comprises Mick, Paul and Lucy – all strong and dedicated to the task. The Bristol office is the first point of call for Local Authorities wishing to place children and young people into foster care in the South West. Our experienced and friendly Placements Team (Charlotte and Debbie) deal with referrals from all of the Local Authorities in the South West, ensuring that excellent matching takes place in placing the child with the right family.
The Bristol office is also the main base for Capstone’s Registered Manager, Elaine Leitch, who has an overview of what is happening with our carers, children and young people throughout the South West. She plays a pivotal role in Safeguarding and works closely with Local Authorities and OFSTED to ensure we are meeting their requirements.
Steve Hunt, the Regional Director for Capstone South West also works out of the Bristol Office. Steve is the main link to the wider Capstone family and is pro-active in ensuring our fostering families and staff team can access the best support available whilst working towards managed growth to meet the ever increasing demand for more fostering families. Steve also has a key role in maintaining the working relationships between Capstone and our local authority partners.
As you can see the Bristol Office is a hub of activity and is central to the smooth running of Capstone South West.
Our staff are all very experienced people with a range of expertise and skills in their field, and are competent professionals who have been with Capstone for many years with a desire to provide the best service and support to our foster carers and their placements, in addition to helping and supporting those wishing to become a foster carer. With reduced caseloads our staff are able to go the extra mile and provide creative strategies for our foster families with 24 hour, 365 days a year support. The Capstone “family” including our staff and foster carers all strive to do the best for the children and young people of any age in our care. It maybe a cliché but, the Bristol and Gloucester team are big enough to cope, yet small enough to care.
We ensure that our foster carers are well supported to enable them to provide the best possible stability and positive outcomes for the children and young people in their care, ultimately providing them with a better quality of life. We have over 20 fostering families in Bristol and Gloucestershire and are actively seeking to increase our carer numbers in these areas to cope with the demand for successful fostering placements.
The therapeutic training and support we offer to our foster carers makes us unique – carers and staff alike benefit from our advanced attachment theory training to develop skills for working around the child as a professional team.
Our therapists provide our foster carers with one to one support and can undertake direct therapy with our cared for children, with support groups organised and offered as required. Our foster carers can receive training in PACE with Dan Hughes, and we can provide staff training as necessary.
The foster carer assessment process takes between 4 to 6 months roughly and we help throughout, identifying the pertinent knowledge and skills you have which will help and benefit you in your role as a foster carer. We obviously also look in depth, based on your family set-up, experiences and skills, at what sort of placement would be best for you and for them. We pride ourselves on our thorough matching processes, where children are brought together with the most appropriate family for their needs.
Every child is uniquely different, with individual wants and needs. We therefore require the same diversity of foster carers to ensure a safe, secure and nurturing home is made available to all of our vulnerable children and young people.
Capstone Foster Care are one of the leading independent fostering agencies in Bristol and Gloucestershire and if you would like to find out more about how to become a foster carer with us, if you have patience, a good sense of humour and a caring disposition with a can-do attitude, please give us a call on 01454 423 820 or click here.
