At Capstone we love to support good charities. We have an extensive charitable giving programme and make donations primarily to charities working in the UK to assist disadvantaged children and young people and recent care leavers.
Our charitable giving programme currently includes the following:
The Capstone Care Leavers’ Trust (‘CCLT’)
Capstone set up CCLT in 2013 to make grants to care leavers in England and Wales aged between 17 and 25 primarily for education, training and essential household goods. Most grants are in the range of £500-£1,500.
Capstone created CCLT because we recognised that many care leavers really struggle during the early years of independence as an adult and that support from Local Authorities is often inadequate.
Here is what one care leaver had to say about the CCLT:
Since I got my lovely new sofa, cooker and washing machine my quality of life has improved dramatically. I can enjoy a nice cooked meal, have clean cloths and relax on a comfortable sofa. Things most people take for granted. I now enjoy. Thank you.
CCLT is run by Maggie Moloney who sits in the Capstone office in Birmingham. Please see www.capstonecareleaverstrust.org for further information.
Impetus Trust and SPEAR
In addition to The Capstone Care Leavers’ Trust, the majority of Capstone group giving has recently been to the Impetus Trust and to SPEAR.
The grants made to the Impetus Trust have been to support the programme that Impetus has set up with other funding partners to assist high quality charities to improve and expand their operations working with children in the UK under the age of six.
SPEAR is a London based charity that provides a free training course for 16-24 year olds not in education or training to help them find a job. SPEAR recently won Charity of the Year status with The Guardian.
Annual donations to charities
We make donations to charities that are selected by our staff or carers and that are local to our offices. We also encourage staff to take time off during working hours to do some work with a local charity.
School in India
We sponsor young people in care to visit I-B School near Delhi in India. This school was set up by Amar Dhull, a former director of Capstone in the South East, and has 1250 pupils. It has links with four European schools and teams from these schools have visited India for a week in November in recent years to witness the Annual School Festival and the rich Indian culture. Capstone has over the years sponsored staff and young people in the care of Local Authorities to share that experience.
