Members of the MATs Clinical Team are to provide therapeutic input to the foster carers and direct to the child. Following the outcome of the child’s clinical assessment a therapist will be identified from the Clinical Team to work with the child to address the paramount need.

Capstone Foster Care is a thriving and well respected independent fostering agency, which provides foster placements for children throughout England. As well as providing standard foster placements, Capstone has recently launched a specialist fostering service – its Multidisciplinary Assessment and Treatment Service (MATS). This provides a clinical assessment of each child and individualised therapeutic support direct to the children in placement and to the foster carers, through its team of highly experienced and skilled clinical practitioners.
Capstone is a large, child centred and successful national fostering agency. The development of MATS is a well awaited and exciting collaboration with mental health professionals, allowing for a higher number of children to benefit from a family home which provides for better stability, care and treatment.
Educational Psychologist Roles
Members of the MATs Clinical Team are to provide therapeutic input to the foster carers and direct to the child. Following the outcome of the child’s clinical assessment a therapist will be identified from the Clinical Team to work with the child to address the paramount need. This could be, for example, therapeutic life story work, speech and language therapy, art therapy or psychotherapy sessions. An additional team member will provide the carers with direct support, helping carers to understand and manage the child’s behaviour, providing emotional support, guidance and training.
An essential part of the MDT is an Educational Psychologist. They will be allocated to carry out assessments of children and young people within their school environments, support the network when care planning for their educational needs, providing consultation to schools and the network on an ongoing basis and may be involved in supplying evidence for the application of Education Health Care Plans.
The most important aspect within the MATs placement is that the carers have the high level, quality support to enable them to manage the day to day care of the traumatised child placed with them.
The Clinical Team will be guided by the Clinical Lead and/or Service Manager who are responsible for ensuring that resources are targeted effectively to maintain stability of placements, and for providing clinical supervision as required to the team.
Experience / Qualifications
It is essential for Clinical Team Members to be registered with a professional body (eg BACP, HCPC) and hold a professional qualification in either psychiatric, psychotherapy, education psychology or clinical psychology with children. Desirable is for applicants to have previous experience of working with looked after children or within a CAMHS setting.
