Scott King – Section 31 Training & Consultancy

Scott King is a care leaver, trainer, children’s champion, writer, consultant, LILAC assessor, and Chair of MP Edward Timpson’s Care Leavers’ Advisory Group. He has a range of care experiences, having had 36 addresses in his life as well as spending six months living on the streets when he was age 16.

Scott created The Puppet Project as a short term initiative to help influence change in the care system by sharing the journey that looked after children go through in a way that helps listeners to not only understand but also feel their journey. However, the project received such huge support, including from children’s minister MP Edward Timpson of the Department of Education who wrote a personal letter to Scott conveying that they had been following his work and that what Scott does is invaluable and a much needed contribution to the development of children’s services. Scott then decided to expand on his original project, launched the company “Section 31” (named in reference to the care act that children who spend their whole life in care are on) and re-designed the training programme, including creating new sessions, and recruiting only ex-looked after children to deliver their training to offer the unique insight into the care system that care leavers share.
