Fostering in Plymstock
Capstone Foster Care are currently recruiting foster parents in Plymstock. As an established, registered independent fostering agency, we work with local authorities across the South West including Plymouth County Council to provide caring foster homes for children and young people in Devon. There is a shortage of available foster carers in the Plymstock and Plymouth area and Capstone Foster Care are working to recruit loving, supporting foster carers to help change the life of children in the local community.
If you have ever wondered if you could give a child a foster home, there are a couple of requirements before you start your application. The first is that you are over 21 and that you have at least one spare bedroom at home. Research has shown that it’s important for children to have their own personal and private space to feel secure and comfortable in their foster home making this a vital factor. If you have more than one spare room then you may be able to support with sibling groups where brothers and sisters are placed together in order to minimise disruption and avoid temporarily separating them.
We also have a need for parent and child placements, these are placements where you support a new mother or father with caring for a young child offering support and guidance whilst also ensuring the development and safety of the baby. There is no upper age limit in becoming a foster carer, and your race, religion, marital status and sexual orientation have no impact on your application. As part of the application process a supervising, qualified social worker will be assigned to you and will be able to answer any questions, offer advice and be your point of contact. They will visit you in your home and get to know you and your household. We will also carry out health and police checks as part of the assessment process, which can take between four and six months. It’s important you are in good health in order to provide a stable and secure environment for a child coming into your home. The final stage is to meet with a fostering panel who will make a recommendation to us as to your suitability before a final decision on acceptance is made.
By becoming a foster carer with Capstone, you will have access to a social worker 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also offer regular training and support including Skills to Foster as part of your introduction to the role and more specialised Therapeutic Foster Care. We are an independent fostering agency dedicated to creating a caring and supporting community environment for both our carers and fostered children. We also have expert advice on hand to support you in gaining the experience and skills to provide a home for children in your care.
Becoming a foster carer and making an impact on a child’s life can be a hugely rewarding career. If you have any questions, a member of the Capstone team is on hand to answer and offer advice.
