Fostering in Gloucester
Capstone is currently recruiting foster parents in Gloucester, particularly people who can look after siblings or a parent and child. If you have been thinking about fostering for a while, perhaps now is the time to take that step and make enquiries. This can be a hugely rewarding career as you can make a real impact on a child’s life and help them to rebuild their lives and future.
We are a well-established independent fostering agency operating across most parts of England, with more than 100 staff supporting 500 carers. We were rated Good by Ofsted in our recent inspections. We have been successful in tenders to provide our services to the local authority of the Gloucestershire County Council. Recruiting, training, and supporting carers who are able to provide this much-needed service is our main focus.
When there are enough carers in Gloucester, looked after children and young people are able to remain in the area with which they are familiar, near their friends and their school. To this end, we seek people who reflect the diversity of the area. However, there is a perpetual shortage of foster homes, not just in this area, but across the UK.
Our fostering allowances are generous and as well as sibling group and parent and child placements, we also have a need for other types of fostering. Most of the children and young people in care are between the ages of 10 and 18.
If you have at least one spare bedroom, and copious amounts of energy and patience, as well as empathy, understanding and commitment, we are able to give you all the necessary carer training you need and provide high-level support from the day you contact us about becoming a foster parent. As well as having the spare room, you should be at least 21 years old. You can be living common law, married, or single, male or female, or LGBT.
A supervising social worker works with you from the beginning, to help you through the assessment process, and after acceptance, to help you with any questions or requirements you have. We have a programme to train you to understand your looked after child and how to respond to their needs. As well, there are several home visits with your assigned social worker, health and DBS checks, and opportunities to network with other carers.
Your training would start with ‘Skills to Foster’ and ‘Introduction to Therapeutic Foster Care’ courses. After this, there is continuing training and supervision. We are an agency that puts children and carers first and to this end we have access to therapists, an education coordinator, and support workers as required.
Contact us on 0800 012 4004 or through our online enquiry form to find out more about starting your fostering journey. We will be able to answer many of your questions and give you further information about what becoming a carer involves.
