Fostering in Devizes

Fostering in Devizes with Capstone Foster CareCapstone Foster Care is looking for carers in Devizes. Because we have an arrangement with the local authority of the Wiltshire Council, we are frequently called upon to find placements for looked after children from this town. There are always children and young people being taken into care across the UK, including this area. We are nationwide and whenever possible, we try our best to place these young people with families in their hometown. Being able to have Devizes youngsters stay in Devizes is a prime motivator for us.

Our area manager, Karen, has been involved in fostering for more than 21 years. She had been a carer for seven years, and she grew up in a fostering family because her parents were also foster carers. This is the depth of the experience we are accustomed to in our local offices.

Studies show that when kids in care are placed in their own familiar community, they fare better because they can continue in their own school and maintain their friendships with their peer group. It makes for a smoother transition. However, because there is a shortage of foster parents, local placement is not always an option.

We are looking for homes in Devizes whether you have a spare room or three. This is the very first question we ask when people inquire about becoming a foster carer – do you have a spare bedroom? Each child deserves a room of his or her own, with sufficient space for a bed, desk, and chest of drawers. The reason for asking if you have more than one spare bedroom is that we also need places for sibling groups.

Another type of fostering that is needed is for parent and child situations. For this, you need to be able to lead by example and use your strong observational skills so that you can monitor how well the young parent cares for the baby or toddler without being intrusive.

Your home can be rented or owned. You can be married or single. The main thing is that you be in good health. Children under the age of five are not placed in a home where there are smokers. The application process is gentle, and a supervising social worker will guide you through the process from the first step to the health and DBS checks, the home visits, and the training sessions. It can take around four to six months until a foster panel reviews your assessment and approves you.

Our carers are well supported. Our fostering allowances are quite generous and reflect our understanding of the important role carers play in the team around the child to ensure positive outcomes and stability in the child or young person’s life. We provide all of the help, support and training you need either in the home, at the end of a phone or face-to-face.

If you would like more information on the process of becoming a carer or would simply like to talk with one of our friendly staff on the subject, please don’t hesitate to contact us by either calling 0800 012 4004 or by using our online enquiry form.
