Fostering in Cheltenham

Fostering in Cheltenham with Capstone Foster CareWe want you to start fostering in Cheltenham. We need your help to change the lives of children and young people in your local area. As an independent foster agency, Capstone Foster Care works closely with local authorities across England, including Cheltenham City Council and Gloucestershire County Council in the South West. We support these local authorities by providing high-quality foster carers to supplement their own in-house local authority fostering team. Even with both lists combined, however, there are currently more children and young children in the area than there are foster parents.

This is why we need you. If you’ve ever thought of becoming a foster carer and fostering in the Cheltenham area, then we urge you to contact Capstone Foster Care today.  As a registered foster parent, you’ll be making a real difference in your local community and helping young people in your area.

If you’re reading this, you probably already have an interest in providing a care service and will likely already have the required loving heart and a yearning to help those in need. There are a couple of other requirements, however. Firstly, you need to be over the age of 21 and be in good health. More importantly, you need to have a spare bedroom in your home. Having a spare room ensures that your future foster placements will have their own private and secure space where they can relax and feel safe, something which is a vital part of a positive fostering experience.

Once you apply with Capstone Foster Care to become a foster carer, you’ll be visited in your home by a supervising social worker who will have a chat with you about the process and ask you some questions about you and your background. This social worker will be with your throughout the assessment process to guide and assist you as well as offer advice. During this time, you will also be provided introductory foster carer training as part of our training and support service for prospective carers. The assessment process ends with a meeting with the foster panel, who will make a recommendation to your fostering agency as to your suitability to provide carer to a child or young person.

Once you’re approved as a carer you might need to wait a little bit of time before you first placement. When placing a child or young person we consider what foster parents we have available and which of them are most suited to provide the types of fostering required and meet the needs of the placement. At Capstone we offer a wide range of fostering services, including parent and child – where both a young child and their parents are placed into care together; sibling group care – where brothers and sisters are placed with the same foster family and a range of other, less specialist placements.

As a foster carer, you’ll receive a weekly allowance, as well as various tax benefits. The amount you will receive varies on the type of placement you have. This money is provided both to help cover the cost of caring for the child or young person placed with you and as a reward for your hard work and dedication to your role.

If you’d like more information about the foster care application process, would like to transfer to Capstone or would like to start your foster care journey, then please get in touch with your local office today. Our staff are on hand to answer any questions and can be reached by calling us on 0800 012 4004, by using our online enquiry form or by using our live chat.
