Fostering in the Thames Valley

Fostering in The Thames ValleyIf you have ever thought about fostering, about the difference you can make in the life of a young person, about how you can play a key role in creating bright futures for troubled children and teenagers, we want to meet you.

In the Thames Valley, there are several local authorities. There are the unitary local authorities of Berkshire and Milton Keynes as well as the Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire local authorities. Each local authority is responsible for protecting vulnerable children and young people. This means that they all take children into care on a regular basis.

Capstone is one of the leading independent fostering agencies in the UK and one of the agencies that works with these local authorities to provide placements.

We pride ourselves on the extensive network we have across the country and the family-like nature of our local offices. Being a nationwide agency, we have a wide range of experts available to provide training and support, but because our offices are cosy and friendly, we still get to know our carers very well!

If you are interested in being a foster parent, the first requirement is a spare room for the child in care. Or two or three spare rooms because it is not unusual for a sibling group to be taken into care. As well as the room for a child or children, you should also be a level-headed person imbued with good health, good humour, and the time, energy, and patience to devote to a child.

If you want to know more about how to become a foster carer, our staff are able to answer any questions you might have. Don’t eliminate yourself from this rewarding choice of career before talking to us. There are many different types of fostering just as there are many different types of carers.

Our support for you begins when you contact us and continues throughout the assessment period, which usually takes two to six months. Once you are registered the support continues 24/7_and our benefits and allowances are outstanding.

You will become part of a network, a team that has experience in dealing with many different placements. One of the often-asked questions is, what type of placement will I have. There is no way to know in advance what children and young people will come into care on any given day.

There are statistics that let us know that the kids needing foster families are more likely to be older than 10 and that very few will be under 5. There is no way to know in advance how long the child will be with you. It could be a day, or it could be until age 18.

Capstone has a superb reputation for working with its foster carers, providing above-average financial support, and developing a solid foster carer network. You will always have a supervising social worker available to respond to urgent issues.

Please get in touch with us for further information about becoming a foster carer. Contact us on 0118 322 4360 or simply complete our online contact form.
