Fostering in Brentwood
Capstone Foster Care is an independent fostering agency working around Essex and the South East and we’re looking for caring individuals looking to start fostering in Brentwood. The local authority of the Essex County Council has contracted with Capstone’s fostering service to provide a variety of loving homes to children and young people in care. Our recruitment efforts are ongoing.
Our first question is, do you have a spare room? Do you have more than one spare room? While there are some other requirements, the answer to this one determines where to go next. If you have more than one extra bedroom, there is a great need for you to think about becoming a foster carer. The reason for this is that we often need a placement for a sibling group. Homes with two or three spare bedrooms are in short supply. It has been proven to be beneficial if looked after siblings can be placed together. If you have the space, we’d really like to hear from you.
The majority of looked after children and young people are between the ages of 10 and 18. There are not many babies being taken into care. If you are interested in caring for young children, we need homes for parent and child placements. In parent and child placements, a young parent and his or her baby or toddler are placed with foster carers. The parents learn the necessary parenting skills to provide a safe and nurturing home to the infant and the wee one will be protected while the parent’s ability to learn essential parenting skills are assessed.
Regardless of the type of fostering placement you receive, it is always discussed with you in advance and we assure that you have the proper training and support. During the application process, you are provided with general training as well as specific training and a supervising social worker guides you through the entire application process. As you become familiar with fostering and are accepted as a registered carer, there is continued opportunity for specialised training such as that for parent and child or therapeutic foster care.
As for the other requirements, you should be at least 21 years old. You also need a caring heart, a sense of humour, good health, and plenty of patience. It does not matter if you are married or single, male or female, gay or straight. There are children and young people in Brentwood who need you.
Capstone provides a generous allowance, 24/7 support from your supervising social worker and any other expert on our team as needed. We also have a great network of carers and social events throughout the year where you can get together in a large extended family type of gathering.
If you are thinking about becoming a foster carer, or simply want more information, then call us on 0800 012 4004 to learn more or use our online contact form. A member of our staff is more than willing to answer your questions.
