Fostering Essex

fostering essexCapstone Foster Care has been operating in London and the South East for more than ten years. We know the needs of the area. This means that we know that there is a shortage of carers in Essex. The local authority of the Essex County Council has contracted with Capstone’s fostering service. Our experienced team of staff and carers has an excellent reputation and we provide all types of care.

One particular type of foster home that is in short supply is one with enough room for a sibling group. Children taken into care are often not alone. If you have room for brothers and sisters so they can stay together, we’d really like to hear from you.

Having a spare room is the first requirement made of potential foster parents. Each looked after child must have his or her own bedroom. When you are caring for a sibling group, younger siblings of the same gender may share a bedroom if there is enough room to comfortably accommodate two beds as well as a desk and a chest of drawers.

Another type is parent and child fostering. Most of the children and young people taken into care are older than 10. If looking after younger children is something you are interested in, we also have a need for parent and child placements. This is an arrangement where a young mother or father and a baby or toddler are placed with foster carers. There is a two-fold purpose to this placement. It provides safety and protection for a vulnerable infant or toddler and assessment of the parent’s ability to learn essential parenting skills.

It is also a way for the parent to learn those essential skills. If the young mother or father has not had a role model for caring for an infant, it is difficult, if not impossible, for them to know how to look after a baby or young child. We offer specialised training in fostering a parent and child. It is a different type of caring because you are not bonding with the infant or toddler but enabling the mother or father to bond with the little one.

If you have the room in your home and are at least 21 years old, you are ready to take the next step. Training is provided, and experience is not a requirement. An open heart, a sense of humour, good health, and a great deal of patience are requirements.

Your marital status and gender orientation are not factors. Single men and women, gay or straight, married couples, common law couples are all encouraged to consider joining our fostering team. There are young people in Essex who need you to help them through this traumatic period of their lives.

Local authorities are taking youngsters into care every day. If you have ever thought about becoming a foster carer, now is the time. Talk to us. Give a child or young person the family support they need. Join the Capstone community. Call us on 01322 629 260 to learn more or email using our online contact form.
