Mel and Ian
We thought about fostering for some time before taking the plunge but now we consider it to be one of the best decisions that we have made.
Whilst it is hard work at times the difference that you make in children’s lives can be enormous and extremely rewarding. We have only been fostering for five years and during this time we have looked after seven young people, two of them still visit now that they are adults.
Learning about the different aspects of fostering and understanding how to support children through a very difficult period of their lives has been very important to us. It is not a 9-to-5 job and you cannot switch off whenever you want. We consider ourselves to be professional carers and our goal is to enable children to make a success of their lives and we are most proud when they achieve, sometimes even the smallest of things.
We have enjoyed the training that is made available to carers as well as the support from our own very experienced fostering social worker. We also enjoyed the help and guidance that we receive from other foster carers who live within the region. If you’ve been thinking about fostering, we’d recommend that you contact Capstone Foster Care.
