Jo and Ste
Ste and I have always worked with children and young people throughout our careers and our voluntary pursuits. Last year, we decided that fostering could prove to be the next logical step in our hopes to bring security, opportunity and love to young people who really need it. We technically fill a parental role in a lot of the work we do anyway, as many of the young people we have in our care in various realms have limited family support and face a lot of barriers. I hope we’ve always been able to help our kids overcome these, though the aim is always for them to smash through them completely.
I’m definitely the more strict one in the family, whereas Ste is the chilled out and fun one out of the two of us, but we know having worked together anyway that this makes for a strong family unit. We balance each other out, and can hopefully provide a well-rounded and stable home-life for our kids.
We’re both qualified teachers, coaches and mentors by trade, and we even got some of our kids to write our references for our Form F Assessment! A few people think we’re insane in opting to care for teenage foster children, but we know that with the fantastic support available from Capstone, we’ll be just fine.
