Summer fun in the North

20th September, 2021

During the summer, our team in the North were finally able to spend some quality face to face time with our children and fostering families. Here are just some of the fabulous activities that we got up to.

Heaton Woods Walk and Picnic for the whole family

A group of 16 staff, carers/parents and children/young people gathered for a lovely walk and picnic in Heaton Woods, Bradford. It was brilliant seeing so many people for the event, and it was a very welcome get together after previous COVID restrictions.

It provided an important opportunity for children and young people to meet and spend fun time together and for the adults to catch up and chat.

One of our carers led the way through the woods to a picnic/pay area where we rested for half an hour. We then continued in a loop through the forest back to the road where we had parked. Sajda then surprised everyone with ice creams all round – a very welcome treat and lovely ending to the walk!

Slaithwaite Huddersfield Narrow Canal Walk & Picnic

Staff members, carers and children  gathered at the Handmade Bakery in Slaithwaite, bought some yummy baked goods and then headed off along the tow path in the direction of Marsden for a fun walk and picnic together. This was the first time that this particular group of people had got together for an outdoor social since COVID lockdown restrictions had eased.

The children quickly made friends and bonded well with games of tig before setting off.

They did some good listening in terms of sticking together and being aware of the danger of walking close to the canal edge.

We stopped off for a picnic which provided a welcome rest and refreshments. Along the way back towards Slaithwaite, we diverted through the forest at the other side of the canal and circled back to the village and carpark. The children did exceptionally well looking after the two dogs who joined us and took it in turns to hold the leads. Ernie (the Pug) set a new Capstone record for the most widdles within the space of two hours: 108! Go Ernie.

Everyone enjoyed the fresh air and really appreciated the chance to have a proper face-to-face activity after such a long time of lockdown restrictions.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park

We had such a lovely day, which included completing the capstone photo challenge, frisbee, bubbles, ice cream and as you can see, we met some of our favourite animals!
