Fostering in Worcestershire
Capstone is eagerly seeking caring people in Worcestershire who have a spare bedroom. We cover the county of Worcestershire, from our Midlands base in Kings Norton (South Birmingham). This includes areas such as Pershore, Droitwich and Malvern, as well as the city of Worcester itself. We have a collaborative relationship with Worcestershire County Council where we meet the changing needs of the local authority and provide high-quality placements for children from across the county.
There is an ongoing shortage of foster parents across the UK, with nearly 7,000 more foster carers needed at any given time. If you have ever thought about looking after children as a new career, there are a few essential requirements, such as the necessity to have the space for each foster child to have his or her own bedroom. You should be at least 21 years old. There is no upper age limit. If your health is good, that is what is important.
When you first make contact with Capstone, the basic requirements – good health, the ability to pass a DBS check, age, and space – are confirmed. A supervising social worker will visit you and your home several times over two or three months so that you can get to know us, and we can get to know you. The entire assessment process takes three to six months.
While there are several different types of placements, we have a particular need for homes for sibling groups and for a parent and child. Sibling groups need homes with extra bedrooms as each child must have his or her own rooms, although young siblings of the same gender may share a bedroom.
In a parent and child placement, the parent, usually but not always the mother, and the baby or toddler live with you while you help the young parent learn the skills needed to provide a healthy and happy home for the baby. At the same time, you are able to safeguard the little one while the parent learns parenting skills.
Fostering is about building brighter futures – and we’ll train you to do this. We know you’re not a fully fledged carer from the moment you call us, but you need to be willing to learn and grow and take on a challenge. From the beginning of the assessment, you are provided with excellent training and support, which means that you are never left wondering what to do. We have extensive support available, regardless of the questions you have or the resources you need. As well, our fostering allowances are generous.
If belonging to a team that feels more like a family is what you’re after from your fostering agency, then Capstone is the agency for you. Our team will get you through the enquiry, assessment, panel and placement journey with a positive attitude, fun and determination.
