About Capstone Foster Care
There are more than 600 children in care in West Sussex, more than 600 children in care in East Sussex, and more than 400 in care in Brighton & Hove. This is why new foster carers are needed in and around Sussex, especially in West Sussex.
Capstone Foster Care is an independent fostering agency which has been delivering high quality fostering for children and young people for over 10 years.
Our Sussex based team, operating from a base in Burgess Hill, cover West and East Sussex, including Brighton, stretching from Chichester in the west to Hastings in the east.
Our foster families are supported by a dedicated team of very experienced social workers, Mike Bazzard and Lucy Powling, and team manager, Julie Ames. We are expanding our team of foster carers and social workers in Sussex.
If you’re interested in fostering then we’ll welcome you to our team!
Why Join Us?
We already have a close and mutually supportive group of foster families in Sussex and there is a real community feel. Our foster carer support and training events are informal but informative, friendly and filled with enthusiasm. Our foster carers would be very pleased to talk with you informally, face to face or by phone, so that you can get a better idea of what’s involved in becoming a foster carer for Capstone and just how much support we give.
Our foster carers and foster children
Our Sussex foster carers are based around Eastbourne, Worthing, mid-Sussex and Brighton. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and have a wealth of experience to share with you. Some have fostered for many years, others have started fostering in the past few years. The foster families have foster children and young people, ranging from 4 – 17 years of age, placed. One our foster families has 4 brothers and sisters living with them. We also have a young adult (18 years old) who was fostered by his foster carers for many years and is staying with them into adulthood (known as a Staying Put arrangement) while he completes his education.
Training for Foster Carers
We have regular training courses for foster carers on a variety of subjects e.g. first aid, safe care, child protection, promoting positive behaviour. These are held at local venues to make it easy to attend and are well attended. The training courses not only provide foster carers with excellent information and resources on relevant issues but also provide opportunities for them to share experiences, which is a vital part of feeling understood and supported in the foster caring role.
Our foster carers can also access training courses held at other Capstone offices and online training.
Activities and Events
Children and young people are encouraged to take part in the events (for example trips to Chessington and LEGOLAND) that we organise for them, the sons and daughters of foster carers, and foster carers themselves. Last year we treated our Sussex foster carers to Christmas lunch together at Bills restaurant in Lewes.
We are busy planning events for the rest of year and next year.
Consultation and Participation
We regularly ask our foster children and young people and foster carers about what we could do better so that we can act upon their feedback and improve our service!
What Capstone Sussex Foster Carers Say
Our foster carers feel well supported and receive the best possible help, advice, service and support. We are proud of the great team that offers high quality placements for children across East and West Sussex.
A few of our Sussex foster carers specialise in Parent and Child placements. We offer these placements to support and assess parents in their ability to look after their child or children. Parent and child fostering gives parents the best possible opportunity to develop parenting skills in a safe family environment where both parent and child are supported by a foster family.
A fresh, energetic and enthusiastic team, we are excited to be part of the Sussex fostering community. We greatly respect the dedicated work our foster carers do for vulnerable children and young people. We are proud to have a role in recruiting, training, supporting and advising foster carers. We want our good work to expand and continue.
