Fostering in Yeovil
Capstone Foster Care is an Independent Fostering Agency based in Frome. We cover all of Somerset and Wiltshire town and civil parishes in the district of South Somerset. This means that we also cover the Yeovil area. We already have placements in the region but there is an increasing demand for more carers in this area.
Yeovil is not alone in the need for more carers. Across the country, there are about nine thousand children who need homes. There are about seventy thousand in care across the UK. These nine thousand are the kids for whom there is no available foster home.
Children come into care through the local authority of the Somerset Council which does have a fostering department. It’s just not able to keep up with the demand. Capstone is one of the independent agencies that provides additional placements for Yeovil’s looked after children and young people.
As an IFA, Capstone is able to focus its full set of superb resources on the task at hand which is to give each looked after child or young person the best possible opportunity to achieve a bright positive future that is their right. We do one thing, fostering, and we do it extremely well.
Are you wondering if you could foster a young person? The first question is, do you have a spare room? Every child deserves his or her own physical space as well as the loving space to grow into the fulfilled adult they can be, achieving the life that should be their expectation in the world.
The application process takes a few months, from four to six months actually. This is time for you to learn about how we operate and get involved in our training. It is also time for us to get to know you and your household. Aside from the room for a child, we also look for people in excellent health, with patience, compassion, and commitment.

You will also learn about the types of placements we have. For instance, because children in care reflect the demographics of the overall population, often they are in care with their brothers and sisters. We need people who have more than one spare bedroom because we need people who can look after two or three siblings together.
Sometimes, people think of fostering as a situation where they are caring for babies. The reality is that there are babies being placed but it is more typical that they are placed as part of a parent and child arrangement. The young parent may have no experience in caring for an infant or little one.
A parent and child placement helps them learn how to change a nappy, how crying is a natural baby activity, and what to expect from an infant. The young mother or father is not overwhelmed with anxiety and the baby is nurtured and safeguarded.
There are exciting opportunities to make a difference and we are with you from the first step in the application process to your first placement, 24/7. Day or night. Capstone’s fees and allowances are substantial.
