Fostering in Taunton
Capstone Foster Care is actively recruiting foster carers in Taunton. We are an independent fostering agency with a local office based in Frome where we cover the Somerset and Wiltshire region. We have been operating in the UK since 2006 and we have a very strong, committed and dedicated social work team in your area.
Members of our social work team are always on hand to discuss any questions you might have when you call the office. They also deal with all things to do with the fostering panel and training. The strength of Capstone is that our staff are not overwhelmed with heavy caseloads. It is important to the atmosphere of our agency that we always have a social worker ready to offer creative strategies and an immediate response to your calls – 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
You may wonder why we are reaching out to you and suggesting that you think about fostering. It is simple. Simply put, there is a massive shortage of carers all across the country. Taunton is no exception. When the local authority takes a young person into care, they do have their own foster carers, but they never have enough.
Their solution is to contract with an independent fostering agency, which Capstone is, to provide loving homes. Even with both the authorities and the agencies recruiting carers, there are still a large number of youngsters who are waiting for placement. Of the approximately 70,000 kids across the country who are looked after, as many as 9,000 are in need of a placement.
From the beginning, Capstone has strived to create situations where the best interest of the child is protected and nurtured. Brighter futures are what our services are all about and this is the core of why we are reaching out to the people of Taunton who have a spare bedroom and a good heart (and good health). Think of how you can change a child’s life.

We are large and yet we are small. We have grown a great deal since 2006 which means we have the services and expertise of a large agency, but we retain our cosy feel and personality of a local independent agency.
In particular, we need people who have the room to look after a sibling group. We also need someone with the skills to help a young parent and child bond and develop a safe and nurturing relationship. Not everyone grows up knowing how to change a nappy. Our carers can help with this, and many other, parenting lessons.
Aside from a spare bedroom and good health, there are not many other requirements. You do need to be patient and loving and able to communicate well with others. The rest, you can learn from our ongoing training and support.
If you would like more information on the process of becoming a foster carer or would simply like to talk with one of our friendly staff on the subject, please don’t hesitate to contact us by either calling 0800 012 4004 or by using our online enquiry form.
