Fostering in Basildon
Because Capstone Foster Care has been fostering in Essex for more than ten years, we know the needs of the area. One of the ongoing needs is for more carers in Basildon. The local authority of the Basildon Borough Council has contracted with Capstone to provide fostering services and we strive to have the best trained and best rewarded foster families possible.
We are an independent fostering agency that works with your local authority to provide safe, caring homes to children and young people who have been taken into care. Not only are our allowances very generous, we have been rated highly by Ofsted.
In Ofsted’s latest report, for instance, in the category “Experiences and progress of, and outcomes for, children and young people,” this quote from a youngster in placement was included: “I was able to visit my carers prior to moving and they had a book that told me about them with pictures of my room. This made me feel happy about my move.”
This is why we are reaching out to you, as a resident of Basildon, to ask if you have ever thought about becoming a foster carer. You can be married or single, male or female, a home owner or renter. There is no upper age limit but a primary requirement is that you are in excellent health.

The first requirement is that you have space for a child or young person in your home. This means that you must have a spare bedroom that can be fully furnished for each individual child you provide care for.
When you are ready to begin the application process, a supervising social worker will be ready to help you navigate the training and the assessment. The typical time for the assessment is between two and six months, during which the social worker will visit you at your home several times. You will meet other people who are in the assessment stage as well. There are training sessions, health checks and a DBS check will also be carried out.
The majority of the youngsters in care are 10 years old or older. There are also sibling groups and we make our best effort to keep siblings together. Studies indicate that brothers and sisters have brighter outcomes when they are able to be placed together. This is one reason for the reference above to having a bedroom for each individual child. If you have more than one spare bedroom, you will be able to help with placing a sibling group.
Whether you are an empty nester, retired, or simply want to have another child or two join your current family unit, Capstone is looking forward to hearing from you. With Capstone, you are part of a team that works together to give young people a chance at achieving a successful outcome in life.
