Capstone has a loyal group of carers who work with us to support a range of children but, like all agencies in the UK, we need more carers. In Manchester, we work with the local authority of the Manchester City Council, as well as nine other local authorities in Greater Manchester, who often turn to us to place sibling groups, teenagers, and parent and child placements. In recent years, there has also been a large increase in the number of young children taken into care. Councils typically have their own carer families, however, more and more frequently they turn to independent agencies, such as Capstone for placements. As an independent agency, Capstone offers ongoing training and support to carers who are an integral part of the team.
We are an independent agency that works with these local authorities to find homes for kids in the North West (and throughout the UK). It is important to have a variety of foster carers so that children and young people in care are able to remain in their home area. Teamwork is crucial to Capstone’s success in providing excellent care for children and young people. As well as social workers who are available 24/7, Capstone’s experts are available to advise on any issues that arise with children in care who may have special needs, which can range from physical to emotional to educational.
No foster parent is ever left wondering how to handle a situation alone. Beyond the specially trained staff at Capstone, there are also support groups and a network where carers can share their experiences and concerns as well as provide insight into solutions that worked.
You do not need to have experience caring for young people to begin fostering. You need to have patience, compassion, and at least one spare bedroom in your home to become part of our team. You need to be at least 21 years old. You do not need to be married or a couple, to join our team. We welcome diversity, gays, lesbians, single women and single men and urge you to consider being a foster parent. Capstone trains you in all aspects of fostering
You can make a difference in the lives of children. With your help, they are able to look forward to a brighter future and a positive outcome in their adult life. We are looking for people who have the space for sibling groups. Being able to place brothers and sisters together is an immense help to them. We also need people who can help with parent and child placements. These usually last for about 12 weeks, during which you help teach parenting skills to the young mother, or sometimes the young father or both parents. At the same time, you are able to ensure that the baby or toddler is well cared for.
Capstone has an established team in the North with offices in Barnsley, Greater Manchester (Heywood), and Bradford. Perhaps now is the time to contact us to see if fostering is right for you, your family and your home. To find out more about fostering or to transfer to us, make an enquiry at the local Capstone office by calling us on 0800 012 4004 or by using our online contact form.
