Welcome to Capstone Foster Care
Thanks for clicking through to our website from Facebook, we’re delighted that you are interested in finding out more about fostering, and we’re really pleased our Facebook post has brought you here to find out more about us.
We are a fostering agency with offices around the UK supporting over 500 foster carers to make a difference to the lives of children they look after. We have expert teams across England who work from local offices to support their team of foster carers. We aim to offer local support, and we have the stability of being a national agency.
Types of fostering
At this moment in time we are especially looking for foster carers who can support:
If you’re not sure about the type of children you want to foster, please speak to our team. They will have a chat with you to find out more about you and the types of fostering we could train you up for.
Fostering a child isn’t something that you will do without training, it’s our job to ensure you have the training and support you need to become a foster carer. As time goes by and our carers become more experienced they often begin to foster children with a variety of educational and personal needs. This is a result of the training we provide for foster carers and the development of their own experience. It is also down to the ambition and abilities foster carers discover within themselves whilst fostering.
In the initial stages, we will assess that you are ready, a social worker will support you, and you will be able to consider any fostering placement before you decide to support a child or children in need of a home.

We’ve been approved since 2011 and we’ve enjoyed every single second of fostering. There have been times where it’s been challenging and tough but all we’ve had to do was pick up the phone and contact our SSW and we know that we have her support and all at Capstone too. We highly recommend becoming foster carer’s and luckily from our experiences family & friends have made that step and are approved carers. Thanks for everything Capstone – without you we couldn’t do this x
Facebook 5* review from Verity, Capstone Foster Carer
Capstone are very supportive, caring and provide excellent courses throughout the year.
I’ve been fostering for 18 yrs and feel valued and respected.
You learn something each day, no child is the same.
I can’t deny you are challenged by the children, but you soon receive the rewards. that warm feeling when they move on taking a little part of you with them! Amazing!
My confidence has grown since being with Capstone.
I can’t praise them enough.

Meet our carers
Carly and Dave
When Carly and David decided to foster their children were quite young, that didn’t prevent them from making an enquiry and 7 years later they have found fostering to be a life changing decision for the entire family.
Around 7 years ago Carly and I were at a point in our lives where were deciding what was next for us. Carly has a background in social work and subsequently qualified as a therapist with foster and adoptive families and I have done youth work as well as lots of other volunteering with all kinds of people. To become foster carers ourselves felt like a very natural thing for us to pursue.
At first Capstone were not sure we were right for them as our two children were quite small and they wanted to make sure that it was a good move. After lots of discussion we all decided to go ahead and we have not looked back. Since being approved we have done everything from respite to long term caring. Our children are incredible and accept everyone who comes through our doors without judgment.
At the moment we are fostering a young lady with special needs long term. This is not something we ever thought would happen but we have found as we journey as a family it is amazing what can happen in the fostering life and the difference you can make.
Pat and Oliver
Once their adult children had flown the nest, Pat and Oliver from Hertfordshire made an enquiry with Capstone to become foster carers. Within a few months they were making a difference to the lives of 3 siblings who joined their home in need of care, love and support. We spoke to them recently to find out more about their fostering journey.
Fostering was something that Pat and Oliver had thought about for a long time. In 2015 the time was right to make an enquiry as they had the space required and time to foster.
“We had 2 spare bedrooms and fostering was something we always wanted to do.”
The couple had looked at several agencies and eventually chose to speak to Capstone because they were looking for an agency that was foster carer focused. They were visited by Yvonne Crawford who is a Social Worker supporting carers in the Hertfordshire area. Yvonne carried out an initial visit to their home to talk about fostering with the couple.
Both carers were working full time when they decided to become foster carers. They were aware of the flexibility required to manage a fostering household and Pat was happy to cut down the hours she worked to accommodate this.
Yvonne agreed that the couple were suitable applicants to begin a fostering assessment. Capstone would offer training and support for the Pat and Oliver to begin their foster care journey.
Within weeks of being approved in January 2016, the couple were approached with a sibling group, 2 sisters and their brother, age 4, 6 and 9 who were in desperate need of a loving family. Pat and Oliver agreed to help, and the children were placed with them within hours.
Pat said: “Looking after the 3 children has been really rewarding. We can see the difference being here has made to them. Looking after children can get really tiring, so it’s great we’ve had the support of our family including our adult children who visit regularly to give us a hand. Our social worker Yvonne has also been great and supported us at each step of the way.”
