About Fostering with Capstone Foster Care
Capstone is an independent fostering agency with offices and hundreds of carers across England who are available to help foster children build brighter futures. We are focused on harnessing our knowledge, skills and expertise, and passion to achieve a common goal – building brighter futures for the children in our care, our foster carers and our valued members of staff.
A foster parent is the person who steps into the parental role after the local authority removes a child or young person from the family home. Capstone has the primary purpose of creating a team where the child or young person needing a home, temporary or permanent, is connected with someone who can be the parental unit in their life for a day, a week, a month, or permanently.
Each child or young person in care has a different background, personality, and set of hopes and dreams. We cannot paint you a picture of the looked after child because each one is unique. We cannot tell you what type of placement you will be asked to consider because until the local authority asks us to help in finding a home for a child in care, we have no way of knowing the type of placement required.
Will it be a sibling group, a teenager, a 10-year-old, or a toddler? We have statistics that indicate who is the most likely age group taken into care (children over 10 is the most frequent type of placement) and how long the typical placement lasts (a little longer than a year). Even if a placement begins as an emergency type of fostering, it can transform over time into a short-term placement which can then become a long-term arrangement.
The way that we are able to keep each type of fostering relationship thriving is to create the Capstone team where consistency is developed. Constantly available training courses help foster parents increase their fostering skills. Social workers on call day and night, every day of the week, keep the support level consistently high. If a new situation ever does arise, rest assured that we have an expert on hand to guide you to a solution. Our flexibility ensures that all needs can be met.
There is an ebb and flow in the dynamics of any family and the way that Capstone works echoes this ebb and flow. If you have been a carer for a long time, you may have discovered that you have superior strengths and abilities in certain aspects of caring for children. If you are new to being a carer, we work with you as you find your comfort level. Looking after kids is all about caring, loving, being understanding, and providing the home that the young person needs. Our relationship as agency and carer, starts with the assessment process which begins with the question, “do you have a spare room?” and it grows from there.
