Why choose Capstone?
One of our carers had this to say about her experience of being a carer with us:
‘Fostering is a challenge – and every child is different. But I like a challenge and there’s always someone at the other end of the phone in the (Capstone) office if I need to offload.’
Generally, our carers appreciate that we have kept our offices ‘local’, each with their own particular history and ways of addressing their needs, which have been shaped by carers own feedback over the years. Where carers have transferred from other agencies, it seems that the emphasis we place on consistent communication, training and support is welcomed and valued.
Another carer commented:
‘We worked for a big agency before and in the end we got fed up with it being so impersonal. Here, you know who’s going to be on the other end of the phone and we’re in the communication loop. I always get excited when we’re expecting a new child to arrive. Yes, it can be hard work – but the rewards are enormous and I wouldn’t have it any other way.’
The work sometimes is not easy, but at Capstone we are realistic about the challenges, train you to learn the child and how to respond to their needs, and to promote the well-being not only of the child but also of you and your family so that the fostering career you have chosen retains its excitement and interest.
We would add that we are an agency that puts children and carers before profit, so we ensure that a child accesses extra support in education or through therapy and we are quick to pick up when carers need some time-out or extra resources, and we respond. We value our team – carers, social workers, therapists, education specialists and administrators – and recognise the value of the contribution that each makes to the support network around the child. To that end, communication and accessibility are key to the good work that we all do.
It is the ethos of being a team and part of the Capstone family – the combination of professionalism and friendliness – that ensures that carers give of their best and children receive the benefits of carers and other professionals dedicated to their well-being.
