Transferring

SiblingsAs a foster carer you have the right to change the organisation (be it Local Authority or agency) that you work with. We at Capstone are happy to receive applications from carers who wish to transfer and recognise that there are often valid and entirely understandable reasons for this.

If you have current placement(s) our first priority, and we assume yours,  will be the continuity of their care and the placement with you. We will therefore look carefully at what the needs of the placement are and how we can help and support you in continuing to meet those needs.

To complete this process we use the Fostering Network’s transfer of carers protocol , which one of our directors co–authored. This will involve meetings between yourselves, the Local Authority and your current agency to discuss the proposed move, timescales, transfer dates, etc. The meeting will then be followed by the usual assessment processes and references from your current agency, together with a review of your carer file. This process usually takes around 3 months to complete.

In all such transfers the terms of the placement, for both yourselves and the Local Authority, will be honoured for its duration – after which further placements will be offered under Capstone’s placement terms.

If you do not have any current placements, the process is significantly simpler, but will still require references and the assessment process to be completed.
