Fostering in East London
Capstone Foster Care is an independent fostering agency and we work with the local authorities in the East London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Newham, Waltham Forest, Barking, Dagenham, Redbridge, Havering, and Hackney. It is a fact of life in London that there are more Chinese, Asian, Black and mixed-race children proportionate to white children than anywhere else in the country.
What this means is that not only is Capstone eager to build a bigger network of carers in East London, it means that we have a shortage of culturally diverse carers. In our short time in operation, we have created an awesome support team that has a special strength in diversity and difference. Our team members speak 21 different languages.
Because most carers are white, and this holds for all fostering agencies and local authorities across the UK, it is difficult to find foster parents for minority ethnic young people. Youngsters removed from their families due to parental neglect or those separated from their parents and sent to the UK to seek asylum are typical of the vulnerable and possibly frightened looked after young people for whom Capstone needs homes.
Being placed with foster parents who speak their language and understand their religious customs is much less traumatic. If they can live in a household where their culture is shared, it becomes easier for them to adjust to their situation.

If you have a spare bedroom, think about becoming a carer. There are children and young people in your community who need you. Being very eager to have more families for looked after children, we work to make the application and assessment process as smooth as possible. It begins with a discussion and determination of whether you have space for a looked after child or children. Homes for sibling groups are always needed.
After that, we get to know more about your health and household. Often people think that they must have special training in caring for youngsters. This is not a concern because we provide the education and training you need. Capstone is involved in specialist fostering, which provides intensive foster care.
You are allocated a supervising social worker who works with you. This named individual is your main point of contact and support when you are approved as a carer and experienced in the needs you may have and the resources available.
Fostering is a career where you provide a service that is life changing for a young person in care. The financial payments per week are competitive and the purpose of the payments is to cover all the costs of caring for the child as well as to show appreciation for your time and effort. In addition, Capstone knows that everyone needs a break. This is why we provide 14 nights paid respite per year.
If you have questions or if you want to discuss how to become a foster carer, call us on 0800 012 4004 or fill out an enquiry form and one of our members will call you back.
