Fostering in Chigwell
Capstone Foster Care is eager to recruit foster carers in Chigwell. We are an independent fostering agency (IFA) and we work very hard to establish a dedicated team of qualified professionals. Our team is inspired by the great work foster carers perform in caring for children and young people in the Greater London area.
We are looking for caring individuals or couples who have at least one spare bedroom. Your accommodation can be owned or rented. The main focus is that it is comfortable and furnished to a good standard. There should be enough communal space for you to easily spend family time within your home. Being a carer is one of the jobs where your leisure time can be shared with your family while providing the joy of a happy home to a young person in care.
Some people choose to take in looked after young people after they have raised a family while others like to have foster children along with raising their own. We welcome single applicants as well as couples. If you are single, you should have a good support network.
It is not necessary to have any previous child care experience. What is necessary is that you have a positive attitude, energy, patience, determination, and good communication skills. Your health is an important factor.
During our training sessions, we focus on providing details on child care. During the assessment process, a social worker will be assigned to you. The worker will get to know you and your environment.
As for employment, you can be looking for work or in employment. Many people choose fostering when they are seeking a career change or after being made redundant. We would prefer at least one person to commit full time to fostering. However, fostering is a great option for those that would like to work from home. In some cases, it may be possible to continue working outside the home but this depends on your individual circumstances. (We can talk about this.)
As a further explanation about why we ask that you have at least one spare bedroom, each looked after child is required to have their own space and privacy while living with you. The spare bedroom must be large enough to accommodate a bed, double wardrobe, study desk, and chest of drawers. The reason we mention “at least one” bedroom is that we often need to place a sibling group. If the children in a sibling group are young and of the same gender, they can share a bedroom. Older siblings each need their own room.
Capstone has a contract with the local authority and with the help of someone like you, we can offer a valuable service to looked after children in Chigwell. If you want to apply to become a carer, we are here to offer information and advice. It may be helpful to discuss your reasons and purpose for wanting to foster with your family and friends as they are able to offer insight and support.
